The winch plays the leading role. The supporting components keep the cable on course.

A brief overview of the main cable management systems

The winch plays the leading role in cable pulling. However, it is primarily thanks to the cable-laying rollers that the cable reaches its destination safely, without damaging the material and efficiently. As indispensable supporting players, they ensure that the pulling force reaches exactly where it is needed.

During cable pulling, enormous forces act on the entire rig and, above all, on the cable itself. Industry experts know the stresses to which even power cables with conductor cross-sections of up to 2,500 mm² and more are subjected. To the layman, these cables appear almost indestructible. In fact, tensile forces of several tonnes can push cables and machinery to their limits. This makes it all the more important to plan the cable pull carefully and to use the appropriate equipment.

One of the biggest challenges when pulling cables is friction. As we all remember from physics lessons, friction means that considerably more force is required to move an object from A to B. If cables were pulled through a pipe without the appropriate tools, the project would be over in no time, but the actual objective would not be achieved.

For this reason, at least one suitable lubricant should be used when pulling cables with winches. However, as the cable drum can only very rarely be positioned directly at the pipe inlet, it is important to fit the route between the cable drum and the pipe inlet with the appropriate cable guidance systems.

There are a wide variety of solutions for this. They all have one thing in common: a well-planned installation makes cable pulling easier, allows for longer pulling distances and protects the material. They also prevent the steel wire rope and cable from sagging to the ground as soon as the pulling force subsides.

Not every cable pull requires the same cable-guiding systems. That is why there are different models of cable-laying rollers. These are usually made of aluminium or steel, but are also available in plastic versions.

Cable-laying reels have been part of our business ever since the company was founded in 1970.

Herbert Vetter recognised the need for high-quality aluminium rolls at an early stage, developed suitable solutions and continuously expanded the product range. Today, our customers benefit from decades of expertise and practical solutions that have been developed directly in response to the demands of day-to-day use. This knowledge is continuously incorporated into the further development of our products.

Our Sales team helps you with Selection of project-specific solutions and helps you to find the right accessories for your cable pulley This means you can get everything you need for efficient cable pulling that minimises damage to the cable from a single source.

An overview of the key systems:
Cable laying rollers

Fitted with a base or a support platform, they guide steel wire ropes and cables within the excavation pit or along straight sections. Thanks to appropriate anchoring in the ground, the cable puller remains reliably on track.

Cable corner and diversion rollers

It is not always possible to run a cable in a straight line. Corner and deflection pulleys are used to change direction. With the right choice and arrangement, even significant changes in direction and complex cable routes can be achieved

implement safely. In addition, models with a rocker arrangement are available, which can further reduce the strain on cables and equipment.

Cable guide rollers

Cable and rope connection systems

The name says it all: these cable guides protect both pipes and cables from damage. They ensure that steel cables and other cables are guided safely and without damage, particularly in steep excavation pits.

Lead-in tubes and manhole equipment

When feeding cables into ducts and pipe systems, precise guidance and safe handling are essential. Cable duct and cable-feeding devices facilitate controlled cable pulling, make work on the construction site easier and contribute to efficient cable laying that minimises damage to the cable.
